No dia 6 de Agosto, no ano de 1666, nasceu a rainha consorte de Portugal D. Maria Sofia de Neuburgo, no Palácio de Benrath, Alemanha.

Foi escolhida como consorte do rei D. Pedro II, tornando-se a sua segunda mulher. Para a escolha contribuiu a famosa fertilidade dos seus pais, que tiveram 23 filhos, dos quais sobreviveram 17.

Esperava-se assim, que a rainha assegurasse a descendência ao trono. Foi mãe de sete filhos, um dos quais seria o futuro rei de Portugal, D. João V.

Foi também a primeira mulher a ser sepultada no Panteão Real da Dinastia de Bragança, assim foi a vontade do seu esposo.

On this day, in 1666, the queen consort of Portugal D. Maria Sophia of Neuburg was born in the Schloss Benrath, Germany.

She was chosen as consort of King D. Pedro II, becoming his second wife. Contributed to the choice as a wife her parents’ famous fertility, who had 23 children and 17 survived.

It was expected that the queen would ensure descent to the throne. She was the mother of seven children, one of whom would be the future king of Portugal, D. João V.

She was also the first woman to be buried in the Royal Pantheon of the House of Braganza, as her husband wished.
